Questionnaire results and analysis

1. For this question I gave them the option to pick more than one genre because people tend to listen to various types of music. From the chart above I can see that majority(80%) of the people said that they listen to indie rock music. As majority of my target audience have said they listen to indie rock, and it has was chosen a lot more than the other options, I will keep the focus of my magazine on the indie rock genre. I can also see from the chart that the lowest scored genre was country(5%) and classical(10%). From this I will ensure that my magazine will not feature country or classical music as it will not appeal to my target audience.

2. From the chart above I can see that more females answered the questionnaire than males. However, there is not a big difference on how many males and females answered it. Therefore, my magazine will be targeted at both males and females. Another reason why I have chosen to aim my magazine towards both genders is because I feel that anyone can read the magazine so it should not be gender specific on who it is targeted towards.
3. For this question I gave them the option to pick more than one because I feel that there would be more than just one option that they would like to see in a magazine. From the chart I can see that more people(75%) wanted to read reviews about albums/songs etc. than any of the other options. So I will make sure to include some reviews in the magazine. Since all of the options were scored quite highly I will try to include all of them in the magazine.
4. From the chart above I can see that the option people chose the most(40%) was the celebrity on the front cover. Therefore when making the magazine I will ensure that the main artist/group featuring on the magazine is an artist/group that a lot of people (who fit in my target audience) like.
5. From the chart above I can see that the most(44%) voted for price was £2-£2.99. From this I know to price my magazine in this price range so that more people will want to buy it, and not be put off by the price. The lowest scored(10%) price range was £4+. From this I know not over charge the magazine because my target audience do not want to spend too much on a magazine.
6. From the chart above I can see that 60% of people prefer to read both long and short articles. 25% said that they like to read short articles, and 15% of people like to read long articles. Since majority of people said that they enjoy reading both long and short articles and there was a mixed response on either long or short, I will make sure to include a mixture of long and short articles within the magazine.
7. From the chart above I can see that it was an equal 50/50 on whether my target audience prefers a simple front cover or one with more information on. Therefore, when making my magazine front cover I will try to make it with information on but not too much so it will hopefully please both.
8. I asked my target audience whether they prefer older or modern music so I know what sort of artists to feature in the magazine. From the chart above I can see that it was a 50/50 split between modern and older music. Therefore, I know to feature a mixture of both older and modern music artist within my magazine so that it appeals to both groups of people.
9. From the chart above I can see that a the biggest proportion of people think that NME appeals to them the most out of the options given. The smallest proportion of people chose Rolling Stone magazine. From these results I know to make my magazine more like NME magazine rather than Rolling Stone.
10. The last question I asked was about whether they like reading about new up coming artists or not. I asked this because I wanted to know whether it is worth including articles about new artists and if they would like reading them. From the chart above I can see that 75% of people from my target audience said that they would like to read about new up coming artists. Furthermore, I know to include some content on new artists.

Target audience for my magazine

The target audience for my magazine will be for people in the age range of 16-30. This is because people in this age range will be more likely to enjoy the genre of music my magazine focuses on. For example, someone who is in the older generation such as 50's/60's for instance, they would be more likely to enjoy listening to older music. The audience for my magazine will consist of both males and females. However, there would probably a higher percentage of males who read the magazine but I'm not making my magazine gender specific as anyone can read the magazine regardless of their gender in society. If I was to give a percentage ratio of the likely male/female audience it would probably be 60% males and 40% females. The magazine would not effect who the target audience is in terms of their occupation as the magazine would be cheap enough for the audience to buy regardless of their job.

The people who would read my magazine would be likely to listen to music through devices such as their phone, iPod etc. However, they would also be likely to buy music in the format of vinyl records. Those would would buy the magazine would enjoy listening to music, playing instruments such as the guitar etc. and going to gigs and festivals. The target audience for my magazine would enjoy listening to groups such as Arctic Monkey, 1975, The Last Shadow Puppets, Oasis, Catfish and the Bottlemen etc. In terms of socio-economic group, my target audience can vary as the magazine does not restrict to one group but the most likely socio-economic group my audience would fall into are working class and skilled working class. This is because based on the bands the magazine features, they wear quite normal clothes showing them to be quite humble and not all about having really expensive flashy items. Typically people will try to be like the people they like/look up to. Therefore, the audience of the magazine will follow along with this and be quite normal everyday people who don't feel the need to have expensive, flashy clothing items as both them and the bands in this genre are more about the music.
